About The Catholic Engineer (Riana)

Professional Life

I am an aerospace structural analysis engineer by profession, which basically means I make sure planes and rockets don't break in the sky. I have been the lead structures engineer for Kratos' Valkyrie drone, the XQ-58A, and I'm currently supporting the production of other defense products for our nation. I'm passionate about engineering and I like to share my love of the profession with high school and college students through talks and workshops. I received by Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego. I specialized in composites analysis and manufacturing and I absolutely love what I do.

Faith Life

I am a cradle Catholic, which means I've been a practicing Catholic since birth. Though, what's unique about me is that I was born and raised in Pakistan! A country where only 1% of the nation is Catholic. I credit St. Francis Xavier of Portugal for bringing the faith to my part of the world in the 1500s. My family and I legally immigrated to America when I was 15, and I've successfully navigated public high school, a very liberal college, and the professional world with my faith intact. The Taliban in Pakistan couldn't stop me from worshipping Jesus, it's cute that the atheists in college thought they stood a chance. My faith is stronger than ever now and that has given me the courage to start my own business and serve my fellow Catholic professionals.

Family life

I'm a newlywed! I entered into the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony with the love of my life, John, in December 2025. We actually met on Catholic Twitter! I will share our love story on one of my podcast episodes so stay tuned. We live in Kansas together and I'm still getting used to the weather here (I moved from California). We always put God first in our marriage and we support each other in our faith by praying rosaries, novenas, and going for retreats together.

I come from a family of 3 daughters. I have an elder sister and an identical twin sister. I chat with my mother everyday, sadly my dad passed in 2022 and I miss him terribly. My parents are/were great Catholic role models and they are the reason I'm so steadfast in my faith today.
